Blog Post #6 Pine-Ridge
Friday 10/27/2017, approximately 10:30 sunny but very cold Pine Ridge Park. The park is primarily a forest ecosystem with a strong canopy that keeps the under story shaded. Within the park is a pond which allows for some more wetland acclimated organisms to live in the park.
Sword Fern - Polystichum munitum
- Very abundant in the park
- All were about average size for the species no significantly large plants
Mystery Mushroom
- Found in a damp shaded area near a fallen log
- Only 2 smaller mushrooms near it but both about 4-5 inches apart
- All white with soft brown circle on center of cap and splotchy ring of whiter white around that
- Edges of cap were slightly translucent allowing for the gills to be seen underneath
Western Red Cedar - Thuja plicata
- Scaled flat leaves
- Twig covered by scales
- Short and squat tree ~7ft
- Smooth reddish bark
- I originally though this would be a type of Cyprus based on how it was growing but by cross-examining its leaves between the two it is just a young Cedar tree.

- I thought that this mushroom would be basic enough to be common and easily found while being identifiable by its cap's markings but it turned out to just fit in the "small white/brown mushroom club"
