Post #4 Trip to Edmonds Marsh
From what I learned the major function of the wetlands is to filter out all the pollutants that come through it. Sadly, recently it has been more human pollutants than natural. The biggest difference that I noticed right away was Edmond's Marsh was a large open area with a lake in the middle. Also, since I work at Anthony's I get to hear what it sounds like at night near the marsh and it gets REALLY LOUD. I'm not talking about the noise from the train or just traffic, I'm talking about the symphony of animals that decide to scream all at once in the middle of the night. Carkeek was more forested and had rivers running through it. In addition to that it was also quiet, minus the frequent train passing. During the day there were several visible birds out on the water, I could also hear several more in the cattails near the boardwalk, and at night I can hear frogs. I can see why this marsh is a hot spot for migrating birds, there are more frogs and other little animals that they can prey on. Bugs will seemingly never run out so I doubt the frogs are going anywhere soon as well. Personally, I think the second option is more realistic. If we were to restore the wetlands purpose I think a lot of the things that died off or left would be brought back to the marsh. As for the invasive species, things change, there isn't a whole lot we can do and I'm sure something will come along and remove it naturally in years to come. My whole perspective on marshes haven't been changed. I still view them as the same landscape full of all sorts of life even if it's currently damaged. The only question I have is how long will a restoration of the wetlands take.

Working near the marsh, I wonder if you actively notice the change in seasons and the animals that it brings with it? The informational boards all around talked about the different species that come and go. So, have you noticed a big difference in the sounds at night with the change of weather, or has it all stayed mostly the same?
