Blog Post #3 The 92nd Street Park

The location I visited was 92nd Street Park in the city of Mukilteo. The park had slight slopes throughout the large grass area. Across the grass field, there were many little flowers like creeping buttercups, white clovers, apargidiums, common dandelions, and english dailies. There were two small ponds located off to the side of the park filled with frogs, cattails, and algae. I found some  animals around the park too like dragonflies and squirrels. Trees like the Douglas fir and the western hemlock were located all around this park, as there was a forest located to the side of the park. A variety of bushes like blackberry and snowberry bushes and were scattered in the park as well. There seemed to be some dead bushes scattered in the park too because of the cold weather. The area was mostly all native where we assessed with a couple of trees planted here and there in the middle of the park for looks. I saw one or two trees with basal cavities, but there were not many. Logs were floating around the ponds along with fallen leaves and sticks.

The organism I surveyed was the white clover (Trifolium reopens). The average number of this organism across the site was 10.5. They were dispersed throughout the site while usually in groups. There also seemed to be more towards the ponds where it was more wet because as I got further towards the forest, there was close to none. I do believe that the trances was representative of the site as it was pretty consistent throughout the park. I did not encounter many challenges, but I found myself slipping around a bit on the slopes when trying to take photos of organisms. The sampling proved that this organism was populated more towards the wet areas of the park in larger groups. There are a couple different populations like the small-hop clover or the the springbank clover. There flowers have similar characteristics with similar habitates and they are all clovers, which makes them connected. I do not believe that there is any affect of habitat on the organisms distribution throughout the park. I noticed that more of the organism was grouped then what I actually thought. It could be used to control and record how often in one location the organism reappears.

  1. Did you expect clover to have the distribution that you saw? What do you think influenced its distribution?
